Terms of use
This is a working draft, published for transparency while Dead Ringer is in build. It will be completed, reviewed and dated before the service launches. Until then, this page describes how we intend the service to work — it doesn't yet bind either of us.
1.About these terms
These terms cover your use of the Dead Ringer website at deadringer.app and the early-access service described on it. Dead Ringer is operated by M&L Digital Ltd (“we”, “us”) — a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 14498104), registered office: Belmont Suite, Paragon Business Park, Chorley New Road, Bolton BL6 6HG. You can reach us at hello@deadringer.app.
By using this website or asking for early access, you agree to the current version of these terms and to our privacy notice. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2.The service
Dead Ringer is an AI call assistant for UK phone numbers. It can:
- answer calls you don't take, take a message and pass it to you;
- make calls on your behalf — bookings, reschedules, chasing — announcing itself as your assistant;
- send you a written summary, transcript and any bookings from those calls.
Your phone rings first. Calls reach the assistant through a standard conditional divert you set up on your own network, and you can switch that divert off at any time. During early access, features may change as we learn — we'll tell you about changes that matter.
3.Honest AI
The assistant never claims to be human and never impersonates you. If anyone asks whether they're speaking to a machine, it says that it is an AI assistant, in one sentence, and carries on. It introduces itself the same way at the start of every call it makes. This isn't configurable — it's the point.
4.What the service doesn't do
To keep you and other people safe, the assistant will not:
- handle calls to banks, HMRC, medical providers, or legal matters — those are routed to you;
- take payments, agree to charges, or commit you to anything financial;
- make marketing or cold calls, for us or for anyone else;
- share your personal information beyond what the call at hand strictly needs.
It is not an emergency service. Never rely on it for anything urgent or life-affecting — call 999 (or 112) yourself.
5.Your responsibilities
- Use the service lawfully, and only for calls you're entitled to make or receive.
- Keep your account details accurate, especially your phone number and forwarding settings.
- Don't use the service to deceive, harass or impersonate anyone. Your assistant identifies itself as an AI; you must not try to make it pretend otherwise.
- Check anything important from a summary before acting on it — AI can mishear, and we design for "check on the recording/transcript", not blind trust.
6.Early access
Early access is a test of unfinished software for people who'd like to help shape it. It's provided as-is, may have gaps, and may be paused or changed while we build. If you're in early access, we'll ask for feedback — that's part of the deal — and we'll use it to improve the service.
7.Availability and changes
We aim to keep the service available and improving, but we don't promise uninterrupted service, and we may change or withdraw features as the product develops. If we make a change that significantly affects you, we'll give you reasonable notice by email.
8.Our content
The Dead Ringer name, logo, copy and design are ours. Don't reuse them in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product. Text you send us (for example, feedback) can be used to improve the service; your call content stays yours, as described in the privacy notice.
9.Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law says it can't be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud. Beyond that, we provide the service with reasonable care and skill, but we're not liable for losses that weren't reasonably foreseeable, or for decisions you take on the basis of a call summary without checking it. During early access the service is provided free of charge, and our liability is correspondingly limited to the fullest extent the law allows.
10.Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute — except that you may also use any mandatory consumer protections available where you live.
11.Contact
Questions about these terms: hello@deadringer.app. We're a small team and we answer everything.
