Privacy notice
This is a working draft, published for transparency while Dead Ringer is in build. It will be completed, reviewed and dated before the service launches. It isn't legal advice, and it isn't the final word — but it is the shape of our promise.
1.Who we are
Dead Ringer is an AI personal call assistant for UK phones, operated by M&L Digital Ltd — a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 14498104), registered office: Belmont Suite, Paragon Business Park, Chorley New Road, Bolton BL6 6HG. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, M&L Digital Ltd is the data controller for the information described here.
For anything in this notice — or to exercise any of the rights below — write to privacy@deadringer.app.
2.The short version
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or trackers. Fonts and scripts are served from our own domain, not someone else's CDN.
- When you use the assistant, calls handled by it produce a summary and transcript that belong to you and can be deleted by you.
- Recordings are off by default. Callers are told that an AI assistant is handling the call and that their message will be passed on.
- We don't sell personal data. We don't use your calls to train our own or anyone else's models.
- We aim to keep call processing in the UK and EU. Where a supplier processes data outside the UK, we put appropriate safeguards in place.
3.What we collect
If you visit this website
Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard technical data — such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested — to serve the site and protect it from abuse. We don't set cookies, and we don't run analytics or advertising scripts.
If you become a user
- Account details: your name, email address, phone number and preferences such as your chosen voice (Bea or Alfie).
- Call information: for calls the assistant handles — the caller's number (where the network provides it), call times and duration, and the summary, transcript and any messages, bookings or notes created from the call.
- Forwarding settings: whether your no-answer and busy diverts are switched on, and which number they point to.
- Recordings: only if you turn them on. They are off by default.
If you email us
We keep your message and our reply so we can help you and keep a record of the conversation.
4.If you're the person who called
If you ring a Dead Ringer user and their assistant answers, it will tell you that it's an AI assistant handling the call on the user's behalf, and that your message will be passed on. We process what you say in order to take that message — that's a legitimate interest of the user, supported by your being told what's happening. We don't add you to any marketing list, and we don't use the call for advertising.
5.Why we use it, and our lawful bases
- To provide the service (answering and making calls, producing summaries) — performance of our contract with you.
- To keep the service safe and working (abuse prevention, security, debugging) — our legitimate interests in running a reliable, lawful service.
- To handle callers' messages — the user's legitimate interest in taking the call, with callers informed at the start of the call.
- Recordings — your consent, where you switch them on, with callers told.
- To meet legal obligations — for example tax or regulatory requirements.
6.Who we share it with
We use a small number of specialist processors to run the service. As at the date of this draft, these include:
- Telephony — call routing and UK numbers (Telnyx).
- Realtime call infrastructure — media transport and agent hosting (LiveKit Cloud).
- Speech recognition — turning call audio into text (Deepgram).
- Voice synthesis — speaking in Bea's or Alfie's voice (ElevenLabs).
- Language model — understanding and composing replies (Google, via LiveKit Inference).
- Hosting — serving this website and its security (Cloudflare).
They process data on our instructions only. We'll keep this list current, and tell users before we add anything significant.
7.Where your information is processed
Our aim is to keep call processing in the UK and EU. Some suppliers operate globally; where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards under UK law — such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision — and we choose UK/EU processing regions where a supplier offers them.
8.How long we keep it
- Summaries and transcripts: while your account is open, or until you delete them — whichever comes first.
- Recordings (if enabled): 30 days by default, then deleted.
- Account data: while your account is open, then deleted within 90 days of closure (unless we must keep something for tax or legal reasons).
- Emails to us: up to 24 months.
9.Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- be informed about how we use your data (this notice);
- access a copy of your personal data;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@deadringer.app. We'll respond within one month.
10.Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first — most things are fixable. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
11.Changes to this notice
When this draft becomes the real thing — and whenever it changes materially — we'll update this page and its version number. If a change affects you significantly, we'll tell you by email.
